Versos

Privacy

Versos is built to need as little of your data as possible. This page describes, plainly, what the app does and doesn't do.

No accounts

There is no sign-up, login, or user account. Nothing you do in Versos is tied to a name, email, or profile.

No cookies set by this site

Versos itself does not set cookies. Page-view analytics are provided by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which Cloudflare operates on a cookieless basis — it does not use any client-side state or persistent identifiers to track you across sites.

What stays on your device

Study progress, spaced-repetition scheduling, and voice/reading preferences are stored only in your browser's local storage, on your own device. They are never sent to Versos's servers, and clearing your browser data clears them.

What the server sees

When a poem's audio has already been rendered (which is true for almost every play — poems are cached once and reused for everyone), your request is served straight from that cache and nothing is recorded about you.

When a poem is rendered for the very first time in a given voice, your IP address is recorded — paired with the current month and a running count — in a small Cloudflare D1 database, solely to enforce a monthly per-IP limit on new renders (this keeps the voice-generation costs sane). No poem text, voice choice, device information, or other identifying detail is stored alongside it, and this record is never shared, sold, or used for anything besides that limit.

Third-party rendering

New audio is generated by a self-hosted speech model (Modal) or, for certain voices, the ElevenLabs text-to-speech API. In either case, only the public-domain poem lines being read are sent — never anything about you as a visitor.
